At Mazda Canada, our sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices are central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact, helping our employees reach their full potential and giving back to the communities we serve.
The road to sustainability is our journey and destination.
"With people at the core of our vehicle design philosophy, it’s only natural that our sustainability efforts take the same approach. Each day, we are jointly contributing to an equitable, compassionate society that seeks to preserve our beautiful planet for future generations."
– David Klan, President & CEO, Mazda Canada
Mazda is fully committed to eradicating modern slavery and human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business. This is not a cost, value, PR or business issue, but rather – a promise to be the best corporate citizens and decent human beings we can, should, and must be. We invite you to explore how we are doing our utmost to take on this crucial issue.
Our sustainability actions are shaped by the social and environmental issues that matter most to our customers and employees. Our sustainability pillars – Earth, People and Society – align with our brand purpose and the values of the people who work with us and drive our vehicles every day. The goals we have set are challenging but backed by our engineering excellence and the passion of our people, we are ready to meet them.
From our headquarters in Japan to Canada, our entire global organization shares a strong sustainability vision. We are all equally dedicated to contributing to sustainable growth.
Learn more about our global sustainability effortsWe believe in making decisions that positively impact our planet, our customers and employees, and contribute to an equitable and respectful society – all while making meaningful connections along the way. Our success is a direct result of our customer experience framework, which gives us a roadmap for the way we work.
Celebrating the joy of driving and caring for our planet are not at odds. It is why we proudly work towards a future where people and cars can coexist with a bountiful, beautiful earth.
To meet the enormous challenge of climate change, Mazda is committed to carbon neutrality for the entire lifecycle of our vehicles and entire supply chain by 2050. From materials innovation to electrification, we are working towards this vision with perseverance, dedication, and collaboration with our retail partners.
Learn more about our environmental initiativesOur mission is critical and so are the milestones in our sustainability plan.
Launched electric vehicles and other electric drive technologies in targeted regions with clean energy and strict emission targets.
Introduce a number of electrified vehicles based on Mazda’s “SKYACTIV Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture”.
Introduce Mazda’s unique EV platform “SKYACTIV EV Scalable Architecture” for EVs with various vehicle sizes and body types.
100% of Mazda products will be electrified, with pure-electric vehicles accounting for at least 25%-45%. We will also reduce corporate average “well-to-wheel” CO2 emissions to 50% of 2010 levels by 2030, and achieve a 90% reduction by 2050.
Mazda will achieve carbon neutrality during the life cycle of its vehicles and the entire supply chain. Every facet of our operations – product, technology, manufacturing and sales, will be carbon neutral.
For Mazda, the future is more than batteries and charging stations. It's our mindset.
Kodo, electrified. Electric vehicles reduce ground-level emissions by running on 100% battery power and have lower maintenance costs compared to vehicles powered by internal combustion gas engines.
Hybrid vehicles improve fuel efficiency in stop-and-go traffic by combining an electric motor and an internal combustion gas engine. The battery that powers the electric motor is recharged through regenerative braking (mild hybrid/hybrid) or directly by plugging into the grid (plug-in hybrid).
Empowering our employees drives our success. We recognize each person’s unique contributions and cultivate an environment that prioritizes employee well-being, inside and outside of work. Every decision we make is with our employees in mind – to unify our team, strengthen our bond and build mutual understanding that enables us to accomplish great things together.
At Mazda, we embrace the unique perspectives, experiences, and talents that each employee brings to the table, and we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered. Our culture celebrates diversity and seeks unity, empowering everyone at Mazda Canada to be the best versions of themselves. And we are always looking for new perspectives.
Mazda Canada is proud to be recognized as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers.
Our responsibility to society extends far beyond the cars we make. We continuously bring new initiatives to life to connect people with their communities and with nature, all with our collective future in mind.
Research shows that Canadians overwhelmingly agree that spending time in nature is good for your mental and physical health. So, in partnership with ParticipACTION, we encouraged Canadians to spend 50 minutes of active time in nature at least three times a week to enhance their well-being. More than 14,000 Canadians participated and 19,546,646 total minutes were recorded.
Building a better world starts with those around us. That’s why we’re proud to be actively involved in giving back to local communities. Since 2021, our Local Legends program has honoured those who make exceptional impacts within their communities. In 2023, we supported extraordinary Canadian youth who go above and beyond to do the same through volunteerism, mentorship or leadership. This program strengthens our commitment to the communities in which we live and work.
DISCOVER THE PROGRAMGiving back whenever we can is an important part of our social purpose. We're proud to continuously make significant donations that support various charitable organizations and causes, from youth programs to humanitarian causes. We also proudly match 100% of employee donations to charitable programs, empowering our employees to fuel sustainable development.
Achieving a safe and accident-free future is part of our global vision. It’s why we focus on the importance of basic safety philosophies like the ideal driving position and pedal placement and are continuing to develop advanced safety technologies within our i-Activsense safety suite, such as Smart Brake Support, Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and our Co-Pilot Concept, which will further support the safety of passengers in our vehicles in 2025 and beyond.
